The Radiomir is where the Panerai story begins. The first prototype was developed in 1935 for the elite underwater commandos of the Royal Italian Navy. Named after the radium-based, self-luminous paste patented by Panerai in 1916, this large, cushion-shaped timepiece was built for extreme legibility in the dark depths of the sea.
